What to watch on New Year’s Eve

We are almost to the end of the year 2021, and as we reflect on our goals and plans for the next year, 2022. And if we’re being honest, we can’t wait to say good riddance to another rather confusing and difficult year.

With that in mind, I have compiled a list of my favorite New Year’s Eve movies. On this selection of the top New Year’s Eve movies, there’s something for everyone.

1. Are we there yet? (2005)

I bet you totally forgot about this one. Most of the movie happens on New Year’s Eve when Nick (Ice Cube) has to drive his girlfriend’s kids from Portland to Vancouver. They don’t want to go. They try to stop him at every turn.

It’s a great movie to watch on new year’s eve. Although it’s far from perfect, there are enough laughs and endearing moments to just about keep you and — more importantly perhaps — the kids entertained for the whole ride.

2. The Holidate

On New Year’s Eve, this Netflix romance is one of the most popular choices. This holiday-themed rom-com has a first date on New Year’s Eve and a love-hate relationship. Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey star as two singles who, despite their platonic relationship, agree to be each other’s “holiday” on special occasions. only to catch real feelings along the way.

3. Army of Thieves

My favorite Netflix film in the year 2021 is Army of Thieves. It’s a prequel to Army of the Dead, but it’s free of zombies and other horror tropes. Instead, it’s a heist film that tells the narrative of safecracker Ludwig Dieter’s beginnings.

Dieter, a small-town bank teller, is drawn into a once-in-a-lifetime adventure when a mysterious woman invites him to join a squad of Interpol’s most wanted criminals in an attempt to pilfer a series of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.

4. Fruitvale Station

Based on a true story, this heart-ripping drama stars Michael B. Jordan as Oscar Grant, a 22-This heartbreaking film, based on a true story, stars Michael B. Jordan as Oscar Grant, a 22-year-old whose New Year’s Eve outing with friends turns deadly after he is arrested by police. This was director Ryan Coogler’s critically lauded directorial debut; he later directed the box office smash Black Panther and its planned sequel.

5. Fatherhood

A widowed new dad copes with doubts, fears, heartache, and dirty diapers as he sets out to raise his daughter on his own. Inspired by a true story.

Starring: Kevin Hart, Alfre Woodard, Lil Rel Howery

6. The Unforgivable New Year’s Eve

Released from prison into a society that won’t forgive her, a woman convicted of murder searches for the little sister she was forced to leave behind.

Facing severe judgment from the place she once called home, her only hope for redemption is finding the estranged younger sister she was forced to leave behind.

Starring: Sandra Bullock, Vincent D’Onofrio, Viola Davis

7. Raya and The Last Dragon New Year’s Eve

Think of Raya kind of like a modern take on Aladdin. It’s one of the great movies to watch with family on new years eve.

The story is about a Long ago, in the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans, and dragons lived together in harmony. But when sinister monsters known as the Druun threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, those same monsters have returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the last dragon in order to finally stop the Druun for good. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than dragon magic to save the world–it’s going to take trust as well.

Starring: Kelly Marie Tran, Awkwafina, Izaac Wang, Gemma Chan

8. Spider-Man: No Way Home New Year’s Eve

This movie’s a total blast, but it’s also surprisingly emotional at times, too. A bigger, bolder Spider-Man sequel, No Way Home expands the franchise’s scope and stakes without losing sight of its humor and heart.

For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighbourhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.
